Mekhong River, Nakhon Phanom,Thailand brilliant lighting 12 October 2013 Illuminated Boat Launch | Isaan Live
Having been told by the good folks at the Nakhon Phanom Tourism Authority of Thailand Office, that nothing brilliant lighting would be going on till the 15th and with that schedule in hand I spent the day looking at the “walking brilliant lighting streets where the usual assortment of plastic flip flops, and assorted stuff that can be seen at every festival throughout Isaan, I did stop at the OTOP center to find that it was open, but not much there at all. At about 1400h I was walking along the river when I noticed a bit of action going on where the Illuminated Boats are moored and came to find out that 1 would be launched each evening until the 9th when the grand procession takes place, I returned at 1800h just as the crew started lighting the post Yes No electric here, kerosene in small wicked brilliant lighting tins and on this boat about 1,500 of them. On the big boat about 15,000 lights.. The folks that organize are a great bunch and I quite enjoyed helping them polish off a fair few cans pf beer and plan on watching the launches..
